Aditya Birla Power Composites to become a Global Leader

Embarking on a new growth trajectory as The Leading Power Insulators Player Globally

"Aditya Birla Power Composite Limited" (ABPCL), a joint venture between Aditya Birla Insulators and Reinhausen Power Composites, was formed in Oct'2019 and will be setting up a state-of-the-art CHCI (Composite Hollow Core Insulator) manufacturing plant at Halol, Gujarat, India with a capex of ~Rs 100 Cr.

Aditya Birla Insulators (ABI) is one of the most trusted names in the Electrical & Power Transmission industry. ABI is India's largest, and globally the third largest producer of porcelain insulators. It is a preferred partner of a global clientele that includes power utilities, national & international power equipment manufacturers, EPCs and turnkey contractors.

Reinhausen Power Composites is a Unit of Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH, MR and the 2nd largest Hollow Composite Insulator player globally. Between the two companies, there is over 8 decades of experience in the insulator industry. The JV would help meet the needs of global and Indian OEMs in the Power Equipment industry, and further help customers enrich their Transmission & Distribution product portfolios. 

This facility will be the first large scale plant for this range of products in India and will be the largest such plant outside of China. The facility will manufacture a full range of Composite Hollow Core Insulators up to 400 kV, and will backward integrate to make the FRP tubes in-house. There is also a possibility of getting into Silicone compounding at a later stage. ABPCL will serve the insulator requirements of Indian & global OEMs in the Power Equipment industry and for the Utilities worldwide from this facility.

Earlier this year, formalities for the formation of the JV and ABPCL was completed. On 6th Feb 2020 the beginning of project was done with the "Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony & Bhoomi Pujan". The event witnessed the presence of senior officials from both the groups, Aditya Birla Group and Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen Gmbh.

Closely aligned with the Make in India initiative, this project helps pave the way towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat.  To express gratitude and support for this important project, Hon’ble Shri Jaydrathsinhji Chandrasinhji Parmar, Minister of State, Government of Gujarat – Agriculture (State Minister), Panchayat, Environment (Independent Charge), unveiled the Foundation Stone in a special ceremony organised on 9th Feb'20. 

This JV will increase the ability of ABI to reach and serve their customers better, and help them move towards a phase of collaborative growth with the value chain partners.
